More than 4,800 tourists reached Maldives in one day. According to the Ministry of Tourism of the country, it has broken the past record. In January, the number was 92,103, while in February, it was 46,809. Most of these tourists are Indians and Russians. However, there are tourists from other countries, like Germany, Ukraine, Romania, and Kazakhstan.
Although the country started receiving tourists from 15th July, there were strict restrictions. A 30-day free on-arrival visa is available for tourists. Presently, tourists do not need to be in a quarantine zone. They have to fill up a digital form and get ready for departure. Moreover, they need to ensure a negative result in the PCR test.
The tourism authority in the Maldives is trying its best to gain recognition. WTTC has conferred Safe Travels Stamp to the country for implementation of safety measures based on the global protocols.
The Ministry of Tourism also partnered with Allied Insurance to release COVID-19 Travel Insurance. The insurance policy covers transportation costs, isolation costs, and health treatment.
