Maldives Sees 10% Increase in Tourist Arrivals by August 2024

Tourist arrivals in the Maldives have increased by 10% this year, with the island nation welcoming 1.35 million visitors by the end of August, according to the latest figures from the Ministry of Tourism. This marks a significant rise compared to the 1.23 million tourists recorded during the same period last year.

By August, a total of 1,359,208 tourists had visited the Maldives, with an average of over 5,000 arrivals daily. August was a particularly popular month, drawing 176,151 visitors, making it the busiest month of the year so far.

China leads as the top source of tourists, with 198,704 visitors this year. Russia follows with 147,185 tourists, while the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany complete the top five, contributing 117,582, 101,189, and 96,183 visitors, respectively.

The Maldives remains a top travel destination, with tourists spending an average of seven days in the country. The government aims to attract 2 million visitors by the end of the year, requiring an additional 636,691 tourists in the remaining months to achieve this goal.
