The Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC/Visit Maldives) proudly represented the Maldives at the ‘2024 Tropical Coastal City Tourism Event,’ held in Sanya, Hainan, China, from September 4-5. Supported by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and organized by the Sanya Tourism Board and the Bureau of Tourism, Culture, Radio, TV, and Sports of Sanya City, this event gathered key players in tropical tourism.
The Maldives delegation included Mr. Abdulla Ghiyas Riyaz, Chairperson of MMPRC, and CEO & Managing Director, Mr. Ibrahim Shiuree. During the event’s thematic sharing session, Mr. Riyaz delivered an engaging speech titled “The Maldives Story & Innovative Tourism Marketing for Tropical Cities,” highlighting the Maldives’ unique appeal and sharing MMPRC’s marketing strategies to promote the destination.
Mr. Shiuree participated as a panel expert in the “Insight Sessions: International Tourism Marketing.” He spoke about the importance of public-private partnerships, upskilling tourism workers, and diversifying tourism products to ensure fair distribution of tourism revenue across the country.
The event provided a great opportunity for networking, sharing insights, and exploring ways to develop tropical coastal tourism sustainably. Besides panel discussions, it featured sessions on sustainable tourism, indigenous tourism, global tourism quality, and a business matching session. MMPRC’s participation showcased the Maldives’ dedication to innovative tourism marketing and solidified its position as a top tropical destination.
