The Maldives Achieves its Goal of Welcoming 1.6 Million Tourists

The Covid-19 Pandemic left the industrial world in shambles, some industries suffered more than others, the tourism industry being one of them. Tourism contributes to a considerable percentage of The Maldives’ GDP, so the country suffered from the pandemic. Overcoming the recent losses and creating new milestones was the goal set by H.E. President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and the Ministry of Tourism for the country’s private and public organizations. MMPRC and their tireless efforts have paid off as the country welcomed its 1.6 million tourists. MMPRC organized a vibrant ceremony with invaluable assistance from Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), Maldives Customs Service, the Ministry of Tourism, and Maldives Immigration to welcome the 1.6 millionth visitor. Vice President of the Maldives H.E Faisal Naseem graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Tejas Sanjay Kothari from India received the honor of being the milestone visitor, Tejas visited the Maldives with his wife to celebrate their honeymoon, and the couple received special gifts from the MMPRC. Tejas and his wife were welcomed and escorted in a traditional cultural procession and Maldivian Boduberu. The gift hamper included a traditional Maldivian Tannu and a free holiday voucher from LUX* South Ari Atoll and was bestowed upon the guests by H.E. Vice President Faisal Naseem.
