With 2022 being the golden jubilee year for the Maldives in the tourism industry, the ministry, and private organizations aimed to surpass their limits and set a target to welcome 1.6 million guests this year. And as of today, that goal is only moments away.
The coral-fringed nation is ready to welcome its 1 millionth visitor tomorrow, the ministry released this statement as a symbol of pride considering the COVID-19 pandemic and the very recent geopolitical struggles of the country. Expressing his joy about this achievement The Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director (CEO & MD) of MMPRC, Mr.Thoyyib Mohamed acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of all the personnel involved in making this moment a permanent milestone in the Maldives, in his statement he further added that this renewed dedication will be channeled to maintain the position of the World’s Leading Destination.
India throughout the year remains the top source market for the Maldives with a total of 136,828 visitors, coming in with a close second is the UK with 109,926 visitors. Russia, Germany, and Italy also standing in the list of top source markets.
